How do I maintain my Pool?

Sweetwater Pool and Spa Center and BioGuard® recommend the following five keys to basic pool care:

CIRCULATION
Pool water must be circulated for maximum sanitizer effectiveness. The best time to circulate the water is during the day, for a 15 - 18 hours or more.

FILTRATION
Generally, a filter should be backwashed when the water pressure in the filter reaches 8 to 10 psi above normal.  Every filter needs to be chemically cleaned regularly (twice a season) as well.

CLEANING
The walls and floor should be brushed and vacuumed at least once a week to remove debris that the filter misses.

TESTING
Test your pool water for sanitizer and pH two or three times per week.  Also, take a sample to your dealer every four to six weeks during the season. This will help you maintain proper water balance and greatly reduce the potential for problems.

CHEMISTRY
The last step in a total pool maintenance system is applying the right products to your pool water at the right time.  For more information and to establish a maintenance system that is right for your pool, visit either of either of our retail locations with a water sample and one of our pool care specialist will assist you.
